Utility Street Men’s Hostel

Utility Street Men’s Hostel

Location

Situated just off Donegall Road in Belfast, Utility Street Men’s Hostel provides temporary and supported accommodation for single men experiencing homelessness. The 59-bed building was recently modernised in 2015 and this has created a new space for HarmonI to engage with service users. The hostel aims to support clients on their journey back to independent living within their own communities.

Support

The onsite support workers provide clients with support on a range of subjects from benefit and housing applications to accessing appropriate healthcare services. Much like Strickland’s Care Village, the support workers at Utility Street provide person-centred support for clients based on their individual needs. Utility Street Men’s Hostel has a range of service users with multiple support needs, however although the hostel is relatively high tolerance and low threshold, individuals with a conviction for arson or sexual offences cannot be accommodated.

Keys to Life Project

In addition to the support offered by the onsite support workers, Utility Street is currently running a project called Keys to Life. The project is funded by the lottery community fund and aims to give clients the opportunity to take part in meaningful activities to help improve their skills as well as confidence. Sessions run weekly and can involve a range of activities and classes. Clients benefit from learning new skills and gaining qualifications which will help them moving forward on their journey to independent living.
